The Hebrew noun chokmah denotes wisdom, but its meaning extends far beyond abstract philosophy. It primarily describes practical skill and dexterity, whether in warfare, administration, or craftsmanship. This concrete sense appears early in Exodus, where the term describes the skilled artistry required to craft the tabernacle’s sacred items (Exodus 28:3; 31:6).
