Bible Verses About Testimony: Sharing What God Has Done in Your Life

Sharing your testimony points others to God's faithfulness and encourages them in their own journey of grace.

A biblical testimony is an honest account of what God has done in your life. If you are looking for bible verses about testimony, Scripture shows that sharing your story points others to His faithfulness. Discover how God’s grace empowers you to bear witness.

What is a testimony according to the Bible?

Before we walk through bible verses about testimony, it helps to understand what Scripture actually means by the word. A testimony is a declaration of truth—an honest account of what God has said, what God has promised, and what God has done. Evidence. A witness.

In the Old Testament, the Hebrew word for testimony (eduth) often refers to God’s laws and commandments — His truth revealed to His people. In the New Testament, the Greek word (martyria) carries the idea of bearing witness, giving evidence of something you have personally seen or experienced. It is the same root from which we get the word martyr — someone so convinced of the truth that they would give their life for it.

Your testimony is evidence about God — living proof placed on the table for others to see. And that evidence has power.

The power of personal testimony in Scripture

Scripture shows that sharing your story makes a real difference. Revelation reveals the power your words carry in the spiritual world.

They overcame him because of the Lamb’s blood, and because of the word of their testimony. They didn’t love their life, even to death.

— Revelation 12:11

Read that slowly. The enemy — the accuser of God’s people — is overcome by two things: the blood of Jesus and the word of their testimony. The blood of the Lamb provides the foundation of our victory. But our testimony is the declaration of that victory. When you open your mouth and say, “God rescued me. God forgave me. God is real and He is faithful,” you are wielding a weapon that the darkness cannot withstand.

Your testimony is real and carries the authority of lived experience. No one can argue with what God has personally done in your life. Theologians may debate doctrines, but a transformed life is its own evidence.

— each one will strengthen your confidence and stir your heart to speak.

Psalm 66:16 – Come and hear what God has done

Come and hear, all you who fear God. I will declare what he has done for my soul.

— Psalms 66:16

This is a beautiful invitation. The psalmist does not wait for a stage or a pulpit. He simply gathers anyone willing to listen and says, “Let me tell you what God did for my soul.” Notice the warmth of it: come and hear. Sharing your testimony is an invitation. You are inviting someone into the most meaningful part of your story, where God showed up.

1 Peter 3:15 – Always be ready

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts. Always be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, with humility and fear,

— 1 Peter 3:15

Peter tells us to be ready — not with rehearsed arguments, but with a reason for our hope. Your testimony is that reason. When someone sees peace in your eyes during a difficult season and asks, “How are you so calm?” your story of God’s faithfulness becomes the most natural, compelling answer you could give. And notice how Peter says to share it: with gentleness and respect, offering honest and tender truth without pressure or force.

Psalm 107:2 – Let the redeemed say so

Let the redeemed by Yahweh say so, whom he has redeemed from the hand of the adversary,

— Psalms 107:2

If God has redeemed you, this verse is both an encouragement and a gentle charge: say so. Don’t keep it hidden. Don’t assume no one wants to hear it. The redeemed are meant to speak up — not out of pride, but out of gratitude. When you share your testimony, you are saying, “I was in trouble, and God reached down and brought me out.” That kind of honesty gives others permission to believe that God might reach down for them, too.

Mark 5:19 – Go home and tell them

He didn’t allow him, but said to him, “Go to your house, to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you and how he had mercy on you.”

— Mark 5:19

These are the words of Jesus to the man from whom He cast out a legion of demons. The man wanted to follow Jesus onto the boat, but Jesus sent him home instead — home to the people who knew him, who had seen him at his worst. Your most powerful mission field is often the people who already know you. They have seen your struggles, and when they see the change, your testimony becomes undeniable.

Isaiah 43:10–12 – You are my witnesses

“You are my witnesses,” says Yahweh, “With my servant whom I have chosen; that you may know and believe me, and understand that I am he. Before me there was no God formed, neither will there be after me. I myself am Yahweh. Besides me, there is no savior. I have declared, I have saved, and I have shown, and there was no strange god among you. Therefore you are my witnesses”, says Yahweh, “and I am God.

— Isaiah 43:10-12

God Himself calls His people witnesses. Not lawyers to argue His case, not salespeople to market His name — witnesses. A witness simply tells what they have seen. God has declared, saved, and proclaimed. You have experienced it. Now you bear witness to the truth of who He is.

Acts 1:8 – Empowered to be witnesses

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. You will be witnesses to me in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the uttermost parts of the earth.”

— Acts 1:8

This was one of the last things Jesus said before ascending to heaven. He did not say, “You will receive power and become great debaters.” He said you will be witnesses. The Holy Spirit empowers us not primarily for miracles or eloquence, but for testimony — to tell the world who Jesus is and what He has done. You are not sharing your story in your own strength. The same Spirit who raised Christ from the dead is the One who gives you the words and the courage.

How to share your testimony with courage and grace

Knowing these verses is one thing, but actually opening your mouth to share your story can feel much harder. Fear of judgment. Fear of saying the wrong thing. Fear that your story is not impressive enough. These worries are common, and they are understandable. But God asks you to be faithful, not impressive.

Here is a simple framework for sharing your testimony in a way that feels honest, natural, and Christ-centered.

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new.

— 2 Corinthians 5:17

Your “new” may look different from someone else’s, and that is perfectly fine. The point is not comparison. The point is Christ.

He must increase, but I must decrease.

— John 3:30

When we share our testimony with this posture, it takes the pressure off. You are simply pointing to the One who changed everything, not trying to impress anyone.

When you feel like your story is not enough

Perhaps the most common barrier to sharing our testimony is the quiet lie that whispers, “My story is too ordinary.” Maybe you grew up in a Christian home and never had a dramatic conversion. Maybe your deliverance was from anxiety rather than addiction, or the most miraculous thing God did for you was simply giving you the strength to get through another day.

Hear this clearly: there is no such thing as a small testimony. Every single act of God’s grace is extraordinary because grace itself is extraordinary. The God of the universe, who holds the stars in place, bent down to meet you in your specific, personal need. That is never ordinary.

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them.

— Ephesians 2:10

You are God’s workmanship. Your story is one of His good works. And the good work He is doing in you — that quiet, steady, faithful transformation — may be the exact thing someone else needs to hear to believe that God can work in their quiet, steady, ordinary life too.

Your testimony is an act of worship

Finally, remember that sharing your testimony is an act of worship. When you recount what God has done, you are glorifying Him. You are saying, “You are worthy to be praised, and here is the evidence from my own life.” The psalmist understood this.

For the Chief Musician. Set to “The Death of the Son.” A Psalm by David. I will give thanks to Yahweh with my whole heart. I will tell of all your marvelous works.

— Psalms 9:1

Every time you tell your story, you are recounting His wonderful deeds. You are adding your voice to the chorus of saints throughout history who have said, “God is real. God is good. And here is what He did for me.” That chorus stretches from the psalms of David to the early church in Acts to the believer sitting next to you in the pew on Sunday morning. Your voice belongs in that chorus.

Let no fear or self-doubt silence what God intended to be spoken. Your testimony is a gift — to the person who hears it, to the God who authored it, and even to you, because every time you tell it, you remember again how faithful He has been.

What has God done in your life? Take a quiet moment today to write it down — not for anyone else’s eyes, but for your own heart. Trace His faithfulness from where you were to where you are now. Then ask Him for the courage and the opportunity to share it with one person this week. It does not have to be a sermon. It can be as simple as the psalmist’s invitation: “Come and hear, and I will tell what God has done for my soul.” Your story is His story, and someone out there is waiting to hear it.

Questions people ask

What is a testimony in the Bible?

A biblical testimony is an honest account of what God has said, promised, and done in your life. It is a declaration of truth that proves His character and power. Rather than being a performance, it is a way to bear witness to His grace. Your story becomes a tool that points others to the reality of God's work.

Why should I share my testimony?

Sharing your testimony provides living proof of God's faithfulness to others. It encourages those who are struggling, offers hope to the lost, and glorifies God by directing attention to the Gospel. Your personal account of God's work can overcome spiritual darkness and inspire faith in those who hear it. Even a quiet story of grace can have a powerful impact.

How do I share my testimony?

You can share your testimony by describing where you were before God intervened, what He did, and where you are now as a result. Approach others with gentleness and respect, focusing on God's mercy rather than your own perfection. Your story does not need to be a polished speech; it simply needs to be honest and real. The Holy Spirit will give you the words and courage to speak.

What does the Bible say about being a witness?

The Bible teaches that believers are called to be witnesses of God's work through the power of the Holy Spirit. In Acts 1:8, Jesus promises that we will receive power to be His witnesses to the ends of the earth. Being a witness means simply telling others what you have seen and experienced of God's goodness. Your testimony is not a legal argument but a personal declaration of truth.
