Genesis Chapter 1

Genesis 1 recounts the creation of the world in six days. It opens with a formless, dark earth, then God speaks light, sky, land, plants, sun and moon, sea creatures and birds, land animals, and finally humans. Each day follows a pattern of divine command, separation or filling, and God's approval. The chapter's central claim is that a single God created an ordered, good universe, and that humanity alone is made in God's image, entrusted with care for creation.
